Teen Voices Creative Writing Scholarship
Fiction Attic Press is proud to offer several creative writing scholarships for teens. Ten creative writing scholarships are available each year to promising young writers who do not have access to creative writing classes in high school. Merit is based entirely on the strength of the applicant’s writing sample.
*Please note these are not monetary scholarships. Rather, they provide access to creative writing classes and professional feedback to students who do not have access to creative writing classes in their high schools.
About the Scholarships:
Each scholarship provides a young writer with full access to the Fiction Attic Press writing course of your choice, as well as a professional critique of your writing.
Teen Creative Writing Scholarships are available for the Flash Fiction / Flash Memoir Intensive and for Master the Short Story.
The Flash Fiction/Flash Memoir Intensive is a 4-week course in which students write three flash fictions or flash memoirs per week. Students are welcome to take longer than four weeks to complete the course, however, as you will also be juggling schoolwork.
Master the Short Story is a 9-week course in which students learn the fundamentals of fiction writing and write and revise at least one short story. Students are welcome to take longer than nine weeks to complete the course.
Scholarship recipients can begin the course as soon as they are notified of acceptance.
Eligibility:
- You must be a high school student, aged 15-18
- Students who do not have access to a creative writing course in their school or in their homeschool curriculum receive priority consideration.
- If your school offers a creative writing class but you were not admitted to the class due to over-enrollment, or if the course is not available for your grade level, you are welcome to apply for this scholarship.
Requirements:
- Cover letter telling us which class you would like to take (see above), and why the scholarship will benefit you.
- Writing sample of 500 – 1,500 words. This can be a flash fiction or group of flash fictions, a short story, a short memoir or personal essay, or a novel excerpt.
