If you are doing NaNoWriMo, the end of your 30 day novel journey happens around Thanksgiving. To that end:
Write about a family gathering. Use both what is said and what remains unsaid to reveal the relationships among the family members. If a family gathering isn’t apropos for your novel, write about another kind of social gathering or work gathering that goes awry.
At some point, get two people from the gathering alone in a room, or out on the porch, or in the garage–wherever–and have them discuss a source of conflict from their past without ever directly naming the thing that happened.
